The Atlantic Paranormal Society — TAPS
Our Story

Discover The Atlantic Paranormal Society

A trusted non-profit organization investigating the paranormal since 1990 — with integrity, compassion, and scientific discipline.

Founded 1990

A Personal Experience. A Lifelong Mission.

Jason Hawes founded what would become The Atlantic Paranormal Society in 1990 after his own unexplained experiences led him to seek answers. What started as the Rhode Island Paranormal Society became, over years of growth, one of the most recognized paranormal investigation organizations on earth.

In 2004, Ghost Hunters premiered on Syfy — bringing TAPS's methodology, integrity, and mission to tens of millions of viewers across 16 seasons. But the TV show was never the point. Every season, behind the cameras, TAPS continued taking private cases from real people dealing with real unexplained events.

Today, TAPS operates as a non-profit with a global network through the TAPS Family — 50+ vetted teams across 10+ countries, all unified by the same mission: help first, always.

Our Principles

What We Stand For

Common Questions

What You Need to Know

Is TAPS really free?

Yes. Always. TAPS is a non-profit organization. We have never charged a client for an investigation and never will. Our mission is to help people — not profit from their fear.

How long does the process take?

From submission to investigation, timelines vary based on case complexity and team availability. Most cases are reviewed within a few business days. Investigations are typically scheduled for a weekend overnight.

Will my case be kept confidential?

Absolutely. Unless you explicitly consent, your name, location, and case details are never shared publicly. Many of our thousands of cases exist only in private files.

What if there's a logical explanation?

That's often exactly what we find — and we think that's just as valuable. A bad pipe, faulty wiring, or carbon monoxide can all cause experiences that feel supernatural. We rule those out first.

Can TAPS investigate my business or historic site?

Yes. We investigate homes, businesses, historic buildings, outdoor areas, and more. Any location with reported activity is eligible for a case review.

Do I need to be present during the investigation?

You can be, but you don't have to be. We discuss access and preferences with every client during the intake process.
