When you were a kid, visiting a McDonald’s always seemed like the best thing in the world — but getting the chance to visit one shaped like a ‘spaceship’ must have been an out-of-this-world experience for kids in Cambridgeshire.
The unique restaurant, fondly remembered by locals, was built in 1990 with a futuristic theme and was meant to be the first of many. However, plans for more restaurants never came to fruition, and it was converted into a McDonald’s in 1993.
Unfortunately, this venture didn’t last either, and after McDonald’s left, the building remained empty for several years before being knocked down in 2008. Now, a resurfaced video, dating back to 1993, has given fast-food fans a peak inside the now-demolished site, showing what it looked like when it was still standing.

It shows the modern exterior and a quick peek inside, including the distinctive tunnel-like entrance corridor, Cambridgeshire Live reports. One former visitor reminisced online: “Ahhh such memories of this place! I used to LOVE going there as a kid.mI loved it all from the pulsating lights in the entrance to the robot rides and well wow!”
Another reminisced: “That UFO was a constant in my life. Started my 21st birthday night in there, broke down in the car park several times (in my car, not mentally on the same night…), ended up having lunch there quite a lot because I worked just down the road. Last thing I did when I left Huntingdon to move north was have a UFO Big Mac.”
A third commented: “I think this may have been the first Mcdonalds I went to. I was a bit surprised when I found out they weren’t all shaped like flying saucers!”
However, not everyone had fond memories. One less impressed visitor remarked: “I ate in this once about ten years ago. It had absolutely no atmosphere. It was like eating a McDonald’s in a fibreglass septic tank.”

Another said: “I remember being violently ill as an eight year old after eating a Filet of Fish at this restaurant. Saying that I remember more of how much it reminded me of Pizza Planet from the first Toy Story film which was in the cinemas at the same time.
“Shame it met it’s untimely demise, it was quite magical as a kid. Probably quite grim if you were an adult though my dad never let on.”
