Halloween is my favorite holiday. If you’re anything like me, the rest of the year is just time in-between Octobers. Luckily for everyone who shares in my obsession, there are tons of fun things to do in Binghamton this week. Here are nine of them:
1. Get spooked at a haunted house
If you’re looking for a good scare, there are plenty of haunts and walks to check out. Slaughterland Scream Park is one of the best in Upstate New York, and it returns this year with four terrifying attractions. If you want to take a road trip, Reaper’s Revenge in Scranton, Pa., is worth it!
2. Enjoy the best Downtown parties
Local restaurants are going all out this year! Lost Dog Cafe is hosting a Vampire Ball this Friday at 9 p.m. Be sure to dress up for a chance to win big! Garage Taco Bar will be hosting an event with a great lineup of live music this Sunday at 5 p.m. 205 Dry will also be hosting a “Freak Show” party with tarot card readings, live circus entertainment, fair food, a costume contest and more on Halloween starting at 9 p.m.
3. Put on your best Halloween costume
Late Nite notoriously hosts the best Halloweekend events, and this year is no exception. First, they’ll be teaming up with the Q Center to host a spooky costume party. If you dress up, there’s a chance you could win big! Right after the party, they’ll show two movies, Jordan Peele’s newest Nope and the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
4. Go ghost hunting
Want to meet some ghosts? “Spirits of Binghamton’s Past,” a haunted tour of Downtown Binghamton guided by the Preservation Association of the Southern Tier, can introduce you!
5. Tour a haunted mansion
Some of Binghamton’s historical locations are favorites amongst paranormal investigators. You can join them for a tour of the Phelps Mansion Museum and the Roberson Mansion this weekend for a chance to catch some ghost sightings.
6. Celebrate at Late Nite’s FRIGHT NITE
Late Nite this weekend continues their Halloweekend fun with FRIGHT NITE. You can celebrate with phobia-themed rooms, spooky crafts, crazy physics experiments and so much more!
7. Listen to some ghost stories by the fire
Libby Tucker, a folklorist and professor, will share some ghost stories by the Mountainview Firepit. Bundle up, enjoy some s’mores and listen to her best spooky tales!
8. Meet a robot dog
Rumor has it that the robot “dog” from Binghamton’s Computer Science Department will be back out on the Spine this weekend handing out Halloween candy! Be sure to keep an eye out.
9. Check out a pumpkin farm, cider mill, or corn maze
Carve a pumpkin this weekend, enjoy some sweet treats, or challenge yourself with a giant maze! Jackson’s Pumpkin Farm and Stoughton Farm will be open all weekend so stop by with friends and pick some pumpkins. You can explore Stoughton Farm’s giant corn maze during the day for fun and you can try it at night for the scares! The Cider Mill sells delicious cider, donuts, candy apples, and more so check it out for some sweet fall treats!
