This new show is hosted by paranormal expert and documentary maker Steve Shippy, who also moonlights as a rapper with the stage name of Prozak. Shippy grew up in a haunted house in rural Michigan and uses his personal experiences to inform his work on Haunting in the Heartland.
Shippy visits towns that have been haunted by a frightening spirit for generations. He visits historical sites, interviews residents and uses his own paranormal kit to locate the paranormal manifestation.
In the premiere episode, Shippy visits Merrill, Mich., which has been plagued by a spirit since the 1800s. Even the FBI got involved to try to get rid of it. Now, a family that lives a mile away from the original haunting feels threatened enough to leave their home. Shippy pairs up with a clairvoyant to try to force the paranormal out of the house and town.
“Growing up in a haunted house in a small Midwestern town, I understand the isolation of the experience, and it was only when others in town started to have similar experiences that I realized I wasn’t alone,” said Shippy in a Discovery press release. “Like my documentaries, working on this show is truly my life’s work. These small towns have a bigger story to tell, and in order to find the resolution these families need now, we need to piece together their past.”
