Preparing
for Lent as a Paranormal Investigator
It’s no mystery that paranormal activity has its busy
times and slow times throughout the year. Early to mid February
appear to be a slow time, while late October to early November
seems to be an increase time. Perhaps the veil is thinner
at some times and thicker at others, but I feel an important
season is often overlooked, and that’s the season of
Lent.
Although Lent is generally seen as a Christian preparation
for Easter, its origins date way before the Christian religion
even existed. Polytheistic religions recognized Lent to be
the time to prepare for their gods and goddesses to be born
again or return to this world. The Ancient Greeks, for example
celebrated the Rites of Spring during their “Lenten”
season by celebrating the annual reunion of the harvest goddess
Demeter and her daughter Persephone. Winter occurred during
the time Persephone was confined to Hades and her mother Demeter
wept and made the land barren, and spring celebrates the reunion.
But what does that have to do with ghost hunting? Well there
are a lot of factors that go on during Lent that we Ghost
hunters must be aware of, and they range globally to personally.
This time of the year is generally a mess weather-wise. Snow
gradually turns to rain, and the wind picks up. There’s
sort of a battle going on between the seasons. We have bitter
cold spells quickly followed by warming trends. Then thunder,
flooding and high winds. Then slowly through it all things
start to bloom. Now, I’m a firm believer that ghosts
get their strength from the electromagnetic field, and weather
obviously affects this, therefore this may be a big time for
ghosts to “wake up” if you will from the steady
cold dead world. Think about it. This period is just the opposite
of late October, and traditionally late October is when the
veil between the worlds is the thinnest. So it is possible
that going from cold to warm weather has the same affect.
The bottom line is the world transforms, and what was once
dead is now alive again!
As the environment of the planet changes, so do her inhabitants.
Dogs and cats shed, birds migrate north, mating season begins,
and bees and ants once again establish their societies, flowers
and tress bloom. The Circle of Life once again is reborn.
Obviously this affects humans as well. We become more “spirited”
from more light, were go outdoors more, and our senses change
as well! We now have more light, hear the sounds of spring
and smell the flowers we haven’t smelt since last year.
Our psyches open up, and so do our perceptions. The winter
blues start to go away. And we get happier, releasing more
endorphins into our bodies.
So we have some major factors going on! The planetary changes
as well as the biological changes in the residents of Earth.
If the veil does get thinner, and we’re more open in
our psyches then obviously this is a time that ghosts get
more active, and we pick up on it.
This is a time of cleansing for us to open up spiritually
as well. I do have some rituals I perform every year to adjust
to the earth changes. Changes in diet, sleep and activity
can really help open people up. First I stuff myself the week
before up till midnight of Fat Tuesday, then starting Ash
Wednesday I stop eating meat, sweets and potato chips and
increase my meditation until Easter. By the end of that period
I feel transformed and revitalized. It’s not easy but
it’s worth it. Plus I need to lose the weight I gained
over the winter;). It’s mind, body and spirit and I
feel they’re all essential. Try it and see!
I wish you all a prosperous Lenten season and hope we all
see springtime soon!
